G2K

As the Troupe prepared to enter a new millennium, some transitions began to happen in the leadership of the Troupe and the College of Health and Human Performance. To focus more on his administrative duties with Gymkana and the College, Dr. Murray stepped down some of his coaching responsibilities and appointed Josh Montfort as the head coach. Coach Montfort, who served as an assistant coach with the Troupe since 1993, also worked as a full-time advisor for the College of Health and Human Performance undergraduate physical education program. Scott Welsh was also hired to a full-time role with the troupe as an assistant coach. At the College level, Dean John Burt stepped down and Dr. Jerry Wrenn succeeded him as the acting Dean.

In addition to the school roadshow season, other notable performances included Maryland basketball’s Midnight Madness and a halftime show for the Washington Wizards. To cap off the G2K season, the Troupe hosted Home Show 2000 on April 7th and 8th in the University of Maryland Cole Field House.

A notable milestone for the programs offered, in January of 2000, Gymkana’s Saturday Gymnastics Program was born. It initially began as a Winter program for youths ages 5-16.
